Family Discipline.
I would like to say I am a firm beleiver in spankings.. However I almost never use the same "Item" it varies between a paddle, a wooden spoon, and my hand.. Depending on what is available at that moment.
I would like to know if your truely beleive that the bible means a ROD? If so.. what classifies as a rod? And how far is too far? Age appropriate corpral punishment.. Please be willing to reply.. I am humbly waiting for your answer.. Thanks.
Child Discipline
Well, at least you are a firm believer in a subject that made America and the families of America strong. Preparing the next generation is as important as soul winning itself. Quite a statement, I know, but according to Psalm 71 verses 17-18, it is expected of us to prepare the generation to come to serve God. When we leave the scene, who will carry on the mission? For the overwhelming majority of Christian homes, the next generation fades away into worldiness and the work of God is forgotten. Discipline plays a huge role in this endeavor and the Lord has some very specific instructions and direction toward that end. I would recommend, if you haven't already, to read my article "Things to Think About, Regarding the Issue of Spanking Your Children" by Evangelist David Karpenko- 3/31/2008. You will find it listed in the articles section of this site. I was corrected years ago on this issue of using a rod and at the time, I resisted. Mostly from pride, but also from a lack of understanding. Oh, I read the verses, but I did not really consider them. We had a paddle with a Bible verse on it and thought we were perfectly correct in our approach. In light of the Scripture, however, I was out of line. The Lord says a rod. It is an article that delivers a sting without any serious hurt. None of us are always in complete control. Other items such as paddles, belts, and even one's hand can deliver a harmful blow in the heat of the moment. Besides, it is troubling to a parent when you go to hug your child and they wince, thinking you might be striking them. It seems we know how to properly discipline our pets better than our own children. As for the child's age, well, that isn't exactly clear. I have known some to spank their older teens, but I feel this should be unnecessary. Personnally I feel that by 12, spanking should be over. When Mary and Joseph addressed Jesus with his disappearance, they treated him with adult like reason, although he continued to submit himself under their authority. Spanking (Child Training) is most affective prior to 5 years of age as we see with Moses, Samuel, and Esther. By the way, proper upbringing of children is drug free! The phsycotic drugs prescribed today to children are simply treating the symptoms, not the problem. Simply put, if we would just align ourselves and our families as closely with Scripture as we can, we will find success. I could go on, but I encourage you to search the Scriptures and apply! God bless!
